Co-operative Young Film-Makers Festival 2008
Great news! This year no fewer than three South Axholme animations have been selected for the prestigious national event to be held at the National Media Museum at Bradford.  Mathew Campbell and Christopher Carr contribute Power Struggle, Peter Lawson Methane Attack and, from a year ago, Phillipa Leuchars has had her Global Warning selected. Their work is to be screened on Thursday October 9th and the school will be sending a coach load of year 10 supporters to enjoy the screening and all the other delights on show. Naturally the winners and their parents will be there also. (See the Animation Showcase for a link to the movies.)

Co-operative Young Film-Makers 2009
Peter Lawson scooped the top prize in the Scunthorpe Young People's Film Festival. At the special Gala evening held at the Plowright Theatre in Laneham Street, on Thursday 1st October. Peter won the prize for the best animation in the 12 to 16 age group. although he had his year 11 examination piece "The Shadows" shortlisted for the prize it was in fact his year 10 "Methane Attack" that gained the reward. Congratulations to him and to Matthew Campbell, Christopher Carr and ex-student Tom Robinson who all were short listed.

He was not however our only outright winner. Jack and, brother, Tom Richmond were part of the The Buzz Youth Arts Festival Film Group, a summer vacation film club who made their film about aliens taking over Scunthorpe - "Big Trouble In Little Scunthorpe". They gained top award in the Fiction 12-16 category. This was acting to add to Jack's already considerable talent as an animator.

Jack also doubled as the school's festival reporter as we were all back here for the Year 6 evening. "There were some great films on show, a good band in the interval (Zero Hour) and a fantastic buffet which is always nice."

See the finished Movie - Alphabet Planet

Peter Lang was our Animator in Residence working with year 9 pupils during June and July. Peter has had thirty years’ experience of working on children’s programmes and television commercials. He introduced seventeen of next year’s Animation Option group to a new cut-out software program, CreaToon. We decided to do an alphabet planet in which each pupil selected a different letter of the alphabet and based their planet around that. The animation will be posted on our website as soon as it has been edited. It should offer an interesting alternative to Flash. more

Animation banners wanted!

Look at the top of our animation page. Do you feel you could design a suitable banner? Andrew Casburn has started this year's attempts. See Mr Lumsden about how the stage dimensions - something like
800x75 will work - and try to get something about the school into the animation. It's also got to be a small file size. Look at earlier examples to spur you on.
